Week 09: Concept Ideas and Research

This open structure is composed solely of organic forms. The design is inspired by water and it's movement alike Moore's Frangipani situated on the infamous Bondi Beach, water plays an essential factor into the design of the building. I am inspired by the honey-comb like shell that encloses this public space. The structure follows a grid but unlike Moore's horizontal and vertical planes this design follows an unordered grid its materiality and simple structure still provide a clean aesthetic. I want to explore and elaborate on this idea. -Shell encasing entire building -Decorative shell encasing sides -Decorative shell encasing simple walls -Changing exterior grid into a pattern feature? PUBLIC SPACE? -Encasing the apartments forming a public space with vegetation?

After numerous research online I came across this complication of a student's work from sci-arc. What I found interesting was the simple geometric shapes that transform into a cluster of complex shapes that form architecture. The designs are innovative and aesthetically incredible almost as though this is the architecture of the future. Challenging ideas -parasitic structure attached to simple geometric building -Cluster of shapes growing out of the structure. - Change of context, High rise? Larger scale? Lattice or reticulated shell? Concept of biomimesis, web like, skeleton like structures encasing original building.

Zaha hadid's works take a new approach to architecture by creating structures with fragmented geometry and multiple perspective points that symbolises the chaotic environments of the modern life. The complex buildings are well organised and logically constructed. Some of her works that are an inspiration for my re-interpretation include Burnham Pavillion, Madrid Civil Courts of Justice, Library and learning Center, Vienna, just to name a few, the Structures also follow an irregular grid but appear ordered and graceful.

This video i came across is another clear example of an exterior shell of a structure defined by an irregular grid.

Herzog De Meuron proposed residential high-rise in New York has similar design elements similar to Ian Moore. This building is composed solely of clean horizontal and vertical lines although the building is alternatively placed.
Using this idea, creating a high-rise building? so the organic shell i sought to create can enclose and create a public space for the residents. This video has excellent display methods, i want to use the falling idea. Build the structure from the ground up. 3ds max?

Ian Moore integrates an indoor/outdoor relationship throughout his architecture. There is no delineation between the outdoor terraces and the interior living spaces which he connects the two spaces visually.  In the inner city areas there is high demand for these large open flexible areas, which can be seen in his buildings I have documented. Frangipani’s simple frame enables a contemporary lifestyle to unfold as we are placed on the Beach of Bondi, just moments from the ocean.

Form? Presentation ideas? Experimenting shapes?
